EMT 251 upgrade kit, add EMT 250 reverb pgm to your 251
SKU: EMT KIT
Some studio engineers who loved the 250 were unhappy with the sound of the 251. EMT received complaints about the new model, and addressed them by issuing an upgrade kit that added the 250 reverb program to the 251.
With the upgrade kit installed, the former SPC (”space echo) button brings up the 250 reverb, which is the exact same algorithm as the original 250. The “Cluster” control on the 250 adjusts pre-delay time from 0 to 80 ms or from 40-120 ms, depending on the position of the toggle switch. The bandwidth is limited to 10.8 Khz with a soft roll-off, to match the 250.
With the upgrade installed, the original space echo program is not lost. It can be obtained by pressing the D-REV button and pulling levers into their minimum positions.
Installation requires slight technical ability, but is not difficult. After removing the digital PC board from the unit, one jumper wire is cut and four new ones are added. The six PROM’s are replaced and the board is reinstalled, and then one trimpot is adjusted for minimum noise. These kits have been carefully tested and are 100% guaranteed. We will gladly answer questions and provide phone and email support to buyers.
The difference in the sound of the 250 and the 251 is reflected in their market prices. 251’s usually sell for $2,500.00 -$4,000.00 while 250’s generally go for at least $7500.00. This kit will easily pay for itself when you sell your 251 -- but more importantly, you will have under the hood one of the best and most popular reverb algorithms ever created.
