This may be the rarest and most special sale that David Kulka / Studio Electronics has ever offered.
A pair of original UREI 1176LN Rev D Limiting Amplifiers, sequential serial numbers 2043 and 2044, manufactured and first sold in 1972. Both units are in excellent mechanical, electronic, and cosmetic condition. Both front panels are near-perfect; the only flaws are some extremely light scratches at the top and bottom edges, and slight wear near the rack holes. Their appearance is almost 100% identical and in operation they are extremely closely matched, so they would be excellent for stereo applications, with or without an 1176SA stereo adapter.
In both units all the electrolytic and tantalum have been replaced, with top quality components. The 4 power supply caps in each unit have been replaced with Vishay / Sprague D type electrolytics. For preventative maintenance both of the Attack controls have been replaced with exact replacement parts. The VU meter lamps have also been replaced.
Both units have been calibrated and tested extremely carefully. Both have been checked with an Audio Precision analyzer and match the original UREI specs.
Our premium Flexo covered XLR adapter cables have been added to both units.
This sale includes the original UREI owner's manual that was delivered with these units, and a copy of the original receipt.
The 1176LN, perhaps the most famous and popular limiter of all time, was designed by Bill Putnam himself, in 1966. The gain reduction circuit uses an FET as a variable leg in a voltage divider circuit. These limiters are exceptionally musical, fast and easy to use. Construction is robust, with an accurate, high quality VU meter. The units will operate on 110 or 220 volts, 50/60 Hz.
Here’s your chance to own a pair of truly legendary, great sounding compressors that will increase in value while you enjoy using them.
Due to the value and extreme rarity of these units, we'll listing them for local pick up only, but are open to shipping them to an out of town buyer if satisfactory arrangements can be made in advance.
